Original Painting for Bird Week Exhibition — 20% of the sale of this artwork goes to BirdLife Australia.

This artwork is part of the Bird Week Exhibition, an annual art exhibition supporting BirdLife Australia. The theme this year ‘From the Ground Up’ explores the crucial connection between birds and trees.

Famous for elaborate courtship, a male Satin Bowerbird uses twigs to construct an impressive avenue of twigs, known as the bower, during breeding season to dazzle female bowerbirds. These bowers are decorated with blue objects, accentuating the bird’s shiny blue-black plumage (a look which takes seven years to grow in). Small fallen twigs are crucial for this species survival and with a nod to the title of the exhibition From the Ground Up, we’ve painted the Bowerbird from the visual perspective of looking up from the bower.
